PMC vs PCMC: what is the difference?

PMC is the Pune Municipal Corporation, which runs Pune city. PCMC is the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, which runs the separate city of Pimpri-Chinchwad to the north-west. Areas outside both are planned by PMRDA, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority.

Which areas are in PMC?

The old city and most southern, central, eastern and many western suburbs: for example Kothrud, Shivajinagar, Deccan, Aundh, Baner, Balewadi, Koregaon Park, Kalyani Nagar, Viman Nagar, Kharadi, Hadapsar and Magarpatta. PMC limits grew when villages on the edge were merged in 2017 and 2021, which made it the largest municipal corporation in Maharashtra by area.

Which areas are in PCMC?

Pimpri, Chinchwad, Akurdi, Nigdi, Bhosari, Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Gurav, Pimple Nilakh, Wakad, Ravet, Chikhali and Moshi, among others. Pimpri-Chinchwad has a strong industrial base, with MIDC areas and large automotive plants.

What about Hinjewadi?

Hinjewadi, home to the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, is in neither corporation. The IT park is run by MIDC and the wider area is planned by PMRDA. Wakad, next door, is in PCMC, and Baner and Balewadi, across the highway, are in PMC.

What changes for a home buyer?

• Property tax is paid to the corporation the home is in.
• Building permissions and the Occupancy Certificate come from that corporation, or from PMRDA outside both.
• Water supply and civic services are run by the corporation.
• Stamp duty is 7% inside both corporations (6% for a woman buyer). See the stamp duty calculator.

How are they connected?

Pune Metro Line 1 (Purple Line) runs from PCMC Bhavan in Pimpri to Swargate in PMC, through Shivajinagar. Line 2 (Aqua Line) runs from Vanaz in Kothrud to Ramwadi. Line 3, a PMRDA project, runs from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar via Baner and University Road.

Which is better, PMC or PCMC?

Neither is better in general. Choose by where you work, your budget and the specific society. People working in Hinjewadi often look at Wakad (PCMC) and Baner or Balewadi (PMC) side by side. Browse the Pune areas guide.
